Create Beauty

Remember the news during covid? Let’s not. Fear was in the air, and as body bags lined the morgues, many of us felt a need to do something. But what?

I offered what I did best: words. I created a blog, titled Finding Beauty, focused on just that: finding beauty in small moments and seemingly unimportant things.

For me, the small moments and unimportant things became the real things, the pieces of life that mattered, especially during a global pandemic.

When we explore and find small bits of beauty, we open ourselves to magic and mystery.

John Keats wrote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever: its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness. Creativity is a continual source of joy, and its beauty grows with each expression, never fading into oblivion.”

Being present in the moment and practicing mindfulness helps us find more beauty, and our creativity expands. Grand moments of beauty can knock us off our feet, but finding the same awe in small moments can also help us grow.

So where can we notice small bits of beauty? Pausing at the splash of a raindrop. Gazing into the glow of a candle flame. How about noticing the gorgeous smoothness of an untouched jar of peanut butter? It’s almost a shame to dip the spoon and disrupt it.

Creativity is a source of beauty. When we paint magical blends of color or write words that sing, we create beauty. If we don’t paint, we can still appreciate the painting. Appreciation leads to inspiration. After listening to beautiful music (and remember, beauty is subjective), you may find yourself dancing or humming along.

Noticing beauty in any format fosters a positive mindset, expands creativity, and increases overall well-being. So, go notice and see what happens.
